Slight Defence is a an emotional pathway through music, images and lyrics that leads the
audience inside a _mar.core's investigation on human inner, interpersonal and social relationships.

The project starts from the re-arrangment and performing of a selection of early scores originally
written by Robert Del Naja for english band Massive Attack.

All the compositions have been realized and performed with no live recordings but with
the exclusive use of electronic devices. Even the female lead voice, AMEE, has been written
and composed by _mar.core with a vocal synthesis programming software.
Anyway, the musical scores have been written following thecharacteristics and the colours
of playing real instruments and the musical arrangements has been structured focusing
on the peculiarities of a human band playing live music.

According to the main guideline of Slight Defence project: "...in a contemporary social structure based
on representation, the not-human becomes the best means able to express in a effective way the
real essence of the not represented human..."

For each of the selected fifteen songs, _mar.core (awarded for the best film editing at New York City
International Film Festival), has selected a single movie as source for the images, that have been
freed from the original screenplay structure.

Through a creative video editing process fifteen new videos have been obtained, in which the
screenplay is guided by music and lyrics. At reverse of the traditional soundtrack composition
process, are the images that are applied to the music.The images after being split like the colors
of a palette, are repainted as if they were a further musical instrument of the arrangement.

Slight Defence is a further development of the Aiòn performances research: but selecting this time music
and images sources with a popular diffusion. MA's songs from nineties, can today be considered as classics
in the history of music, and the choice of movies sources has been limited to recent cinema's screenings.

The selection among these popular sources is made accordingly to another guideline of the
Slight Defence project that characterizes in general the work of _mar.core:
"...the creative process is connected to the de-contextualization and re-contextualization only of
material already acquired. As there is always a source material, creativity cannot have anything to do
with the illusion of adding new matter to the table of the elements".
